The store was huge, there were so many products, and they were far more wallet-friendly than what we had in Singapore! We could literally test anything in the store, and the staff were so attentive and friendly. Quality sports products were not so affordable in Singapore, and I thought that Decathlon would be a super hit if they ever chose to open on our shores.

And they did! Not long after I returned to Singapore, I found out that they were opening a big store in Chai Chee! The bonus was, it was opening 5 minutes away from my home. I read up more about the company, and I loved their purpose of "making sports accessible to the many". I applied immediately, and was recruited as a Sports Advisor in Mountain. One of the best decisions of my life so far!

I've been in Decathlon for close to 7 years now, and what a ride it has been so far! I'm thankful to have been given the opportunity to experience many things! As a Department Manager in Bedok, I was responsible for writing the business plan for my department, and to recruit and develop a team of passionate sportspeople to execute on this vision. I was responsible for the A-Z of the business - from team management, to merchandising, to sales analysis and formulation of action plans to drive the business. I have also had the opportunity to open and manage 2 stores, the Novena Click and Collect, as well as our fifth Experience Store in Orchard. I've also been given opportunities to assist in the opening of a Click and Collect store in Shanghai, as well as to train teammates in Malaysia and Indonesia. This wealth of experience gained has allowed me to grow so much as a teammate and as a person, and I'm eternally grateful for that!

I love working in Decathlon for many reasons! First of all, I love our culture - we are a big team of sports-passionate people, who work together to serve our singular purpose - to make the pleasure and benefits of sport more accessible to the many! I love that our work has real meaning - thanks to our work, a family that might not have been able to afford to practice sports can now do so. I love being able to expose Singaporeans to new sports - I picked up squash and inline skating, thanks to Decathlon! I love that my decisions have a real impact on the growth and livelihood of my teammates, and I love coming in to work each day, to help them take the next steps to realise their full potential. I love the autonomy that I'm given, to take the best decisions each day to benefit my customers and teammates.
